Feel free to contact us with any questions if you’re not sure of the specifics, or if you just need more information.

    What is the occasion?
Whether the artwork is for a wedding, a birthday, an anniversary, Christmas or a personal gift, let the artist know so she can determine how to best accommodate your purchase and notify the recipient. If the artwork is a wedding gift or if timing is an issue, Jennie will send you a note card to present to the recipient telling them what you have given them and when they will receive it.

How should I photograph the wedding cake?
Photos taken by a wedding photographer are ideal if available, but with the rise in digital photography, you can probably take your own. It is up to you to provide photos. Please do so within two weeks of making arrangements for your portrait, sooner for a rush job.

    Tips:

    • Send at least one good photo straight on, please include the table it is arranged on.  Oftentimes these act as pedestals and are as important as the cake itself.
    • It is preferred that you send two additional photos – one at bird’s eye angle and one zoomed in showing the details in the cake frosting.
    • Keep it simple and avoid people in the photo.
    • Do your best to make sure the color is accurate.  You can minimize this by taking the same photo on different white balance settings and with / without the flash.
    • Let the artist know if there is anything in the photo you want to remove from the artwork.

How do I send you photos?
There are two ways you can send your photos to us -- through the regular mail, or via email attachment.  Either way works fine for us, so chose the method you are most comfortable with.

    (1) Regular mail

If you wish to send your photo(s) through the regular mail, simply place it
in an envelope (with something sturdy, to keep the photos from bending) and
    mail it to:

TraillWorks 214 Spring Street, Newton, NJ 07860

Just be sure give us a call or send a quick email to let us know that you are sending your photos through the mail.  This way, we will know to expect them and will be on the lookout! We will mail them back with your finished artwork.

    (2) Email Attachment

A quicker option for getting your photos to us is to send it as an email attachment.  Digital photos can be easily sent this way – just be sure they have a resolution of at least 100 ppi (higher is even better) and are no greater than 2mg in size.  If you have a traditional photo and wish to send it to us through email, you'll need to scan the photo into your computer first. Again, be sure you scan your photo in at a resolution of at least 100 ppi (higher is better) and that the files you send are no greater than 2mg in size.

What are the sizes and mediums available?
Custom sizes are available to order.  Any size is available and portraits can be completed in oil, oil pastel, and on ceramic tile.   All oils are completed on panel, and oil pastels on acid-free 100% cotton rag. Upgrade to stretched linen for an additional fee to be determined at time of order.

Wedding Cake Portraits can be as small as a 6x6 tile to any size your heart desires. Since no two wedding cake portraits are alike, Jennie will discuss dimensions of artwork with you during consultation.

       Do you offer Gift Certificates?

       Gift Certificates are available.

How are the works finished and framed?
Oil paintings can be created on either canvas or wood panel gallery-style frames.  For a more contemporary look the artwork’s edges can be painted and left unframed.  Ceramic tiles can also be finished unframed.  They come with a fully painted backside with hanging hardware and rubber bumpers. Unframed oil pastels will be shipped or delivered mounted and matted in white for protection.

The artist can custom mat and frame the work if desired by the customer.  All framing done by the artist uses archival materials to enhance the artwork’s appearance and ensure its preservation for decades to come.  This will be discussed at time of order.  Any shipped, framed drawings will use Plexiglas rather than glass.

How do I pay for my portrait?
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to begin commissions. Payment can be made by personal check, cash or Visa / MasterCard / Discover / American Express. Send Checks payable to – TraillWorks 214 Spring Street, Newton, NJ 07860. Credit Card purchases can be made in person or over the phone. Orders will ship upon receipt of final payment.

What is the turn around time?
Commissioned works generally require 6 - 8 weeks completion / shipping time and available slots for commissions are limited.  So please call in advance!  Orders can be rushed for an additional fee up to a four week turn around.  The artist can always provide a note card to give to a recipient in lieu of the artwork if needed sooner than two weeks after order date.   How do you deliver work? Local customers can choose to pick up their completed portraits or opt for delivery through FedEx or UPS.  Out of state residents will ship via FedEx or UPS.  All shipments are carefully packed and insured.   Shipping will be determined at time of order.

    Do you guarantee your work?
We know you will be thrilled with your finished wedding cake portrait and we work with you to make sure you are completely satisfied with your artwork. If upon completion of the work you are not satisfied, Jennie will make reasonable revisions at a rate of $50 / hour.
